The goal with my paintings is to capture a sense of the natural environment — I create multi layered mixed media paintings, combining realism and abstraction using acrylic paint, wax pastels, pencil, and vintage paper on birch panels.
My long standing fascination with the environment and the unexpected discoveries of the overlooked, forgotten and discarded add to the themes of my work. I try to see beyond what is first observed and find unique and extraordinary beauty produced by time, weather and the natural world and incorporate those observations into my paintings.
Inspired by the environment, nature and weathered surfaces my work captivates a sense of the past and the future. Each layer and mark I make adds depth, history and an awareness to the delicate balance of our fragile nature both environmentally and personally. The line, form, color and unexpected imperfections help to build a narrative that feels familiar to each of our own individual experiences.
