As a potter I enjoy using both porcelain and stoneware. Both clay bodies lead to distinctive, bold, and satisfying results. Porcelain is sensuous, smooth, light to the touch and imparts a ring when tapped as well as an elegant effect. Transparent glazes in a high fire atmosphere highlight the clarity of the porcelain body. In contrast, stoneware has tooth, color, and a rustic character whether glazed or not.
I am inspired by the classic forms and surface decoration traditions of early Asian potters as well as the folk potters of North Carolina. I want people to find my pottery original, graceful in form and striking in design. I find great delight in the process of making pots and I want to convey the same joy and pleasure to the user.
