I arrived in North Carolina in 2016 after a career teaching high school artists. We bought land that neighbored our daughter and her young family, and built a house with views of the field and woods that separate our homes. A path mowed through the field allows the kids to go back and forth. As soon as we completed building, I turned my attention to painting. First, I wanted to create paintings for the big walls in our new house. Once that was done, I just wanted to keep painting the views of my new home and new state.
I am inspired every day by the effect of the changes of the season, weather, time of day, and the view of the sky. The mist of an early morning or the texture of tree bark gives me continuing ideas for painting. I am conscious of the fact that for each moment in time, the color and light will never be the same. The scenes are always changing and compelling and for now I can’t get enough of it. I’d like viewers to see the special qualities of this part of North Carolina, and perhaps appreciate the spectacular in the ordinary.
The paintings are done in oil, on canvases I stretch myself with the image wrapped around the sides so no framing is necessary. Visit my website to see my latest work.
