A big part of my process includes making the substrate or cradles. The closer I can get to raw or repurposed materials, the faster and stronger they act to create the work. A conversation then ensues through the encaustic medium, which is both fun and addictive. I often step back in wonder and surprise at what has been created then make judgements on balance, value and composition. The piece needs to speak prior to these aesthetic decisions to have any value to me. Sometimes they have value to others as well. Regardless, it is cheaper than therapy!
