I fell in love with illustration long before I discovered clay, and it remains an essential part of my work today. Each vessel becomes a surface for illustration. I begin by handbuilding each piece, and then cover it with slips and underglazes. Once the surface is leather-hard, I carve illustrations of flowers, animals, and playful messages into the clay. I also use stamps and small seashells to create repetitive patterns inspired by precolonial Filipino pottery.

My work draws inspiration from both my Filipino American heritage and pop culture. By combining precolonial Filipino motifs with contemporary imagery, I explore the space between my cultural heritage and my experience growing up across America, bridging the gap between the two. Past and present. Far and near.

My ultimate goal is to create functional pieces that can be used and cherished every day—vessels that invite a deeper connection to the simple acts of eating, drinking, and sharing.
