Biography
"Intuition is seeing with the soul." Dean Koontz
Welcome, and thanks for visiting. I am a self taught artist living in Carrboro, North Carolina since 2017, but growing up as an "Army brat" I lived all over the United States, Italy and The Netherlands. I enjoy working with different mediums including encaustic, acrylic, pastels, watercolor, pen and ink, mixed media, and blown and flameworked glass.
I fell in love with glass work while living in Italy as a child and although I got distracted along the way by a career as as Clinical Research Nutritionist, I always missed my creative side. After taking a flameworked glass class in 2006 there was no going back, and I established GinkgoGlass Studios in Memphis, Tennessee soon thereafter, a teaching facility and private studio for flameworked glass.
My recent mixed media paintings are created intuitively by letting the painting process guide me. I enjoy adding many layers to each painting, so what you see on the surface is only a hint of what lies beneath including writing, paper, or other images. My still lifes with imaginary flowers look like they may have come from another world.
Current projects include a series of paintings on paper from unwrapped recycled tea bags in which colors represent daily emotions. I am passionate about my daily art journaling practice in a Hobonichi Techo which is a Japanese dated notebook containing Tomoe River paper, known for its ability to accept all water based media despite being very thin. I am the founder of the Cafe Journaling group in Chapel Hill.
