I've always loved spending as much time outdoors as possible. I trained in biology and horticulture, as well as city planning and mental health social work. I'm often moved by what I observe in my walks in the Piedmont forests or in my travels. I paint not only to satisfy creative urges but also to honor intriguing moments in daily life. Drawing and painting are my ways of slowing down enough to savor and explore my surroundings and fellow creatures, usually resulting in representational watercolor paintings. I like using strong color and value combinations to convey the vitality I feel from the natural world.
Watercolor is my favorite painting medium, partly because of the technical challenge, but also because there is a scary thrill to the sequential surprises when water and pigment coalesce. The interplay between my initial idea and the inherently capricious materials means I'm never bored! I hope you see something new when you take a look.
