My artistic practice explores themes of memory, transformation, and materiality through mixed-media encaustic works and intuitive abstract compositions. Across both bodies of work, I am drawn to layering, translucency, and process as a means of investigating emotional resonance, time, and energetic presence.
In my mixed-media encaustic pieces, I integrate photography, found objects, ephemera, and collected materials to construct layered compositions that evoke the complexities of remembrance and nostalgia. I am continually drawn to items discovered in flea markets and antique shops—aged papers, postcards, vintage textiles, and overlooked artifacts—each selected with deliberate intention. I have also maintained a lifelong fascination with decorative papers and printed materials, which frequently become part of the visual language within my work.
The encaustic medium, composed of beeswax and resin, is central to my process. Its translucency allows me to preserve delicate materials without glass while building luminous surfaces through successive layers of molten wax. Images, objects, and fragments become suspended beneath the surface, simultaneously concealed and revealed through varying degrees of transparency. Through collage, scraping, carving, incising, and embedding, I transform disparate materials into tactile works that carry both personal and collective associations. These layered compositions invite reflection on memory, impermanence, and the emotional weight objects can hold over time.
Alongside these narrative-driven works, my circular abstractions emerge through a more intuitive and process-oriented exploration of color, energy, and transformation. Created through the fusion of wax and shellac, these pieces evolve organically through heat, movement, and chemical reaction. While I sometimes attempt to guide the outcome, I often surrender to the behavior of the materials themselves, allowing the molten surfaces to separate, settle, and resolve naturally.
Each color palette is approached instinctively, shaped by mood, energetic frequency, and my background in graphic design. The circular format continues to resonate deeply with me through its suggestion of continuity, wholeness, and infinity.
My studies in crystal energy healing also inform these abstract works. Much like working with crystals, I am drawn to ideas of vibration, balance, and alignment. The luminous surfaces and layered textures become records of movement and intention, holding spontaneity and stillness simultaneously. Though abstract, these works invite contemplation and personal interpretation, offering spaces for reflection and connection beyond the purely physical.
