Ruth Ananda works in acrylics making semi-abstract textured paintings on canvas. She grew up in Chapel Hill, NC then earned a double BA in Studio Art and History from the University of Virginia, with a minor in Religion. Her background is in graphics and management, mainly print production for agencies in New York City. Ruth shows year-round at Liquidambar Art Gallery, and This & That Gift Gallery. Ruth’s paintings vary in size from large to miniature. The majority are singular, some works are triptychs, or diptychs, or modular diptychs. Every piece has finished edges: miniatures have wrap around imagery on each side; medium and large works are wired with black or gray edges; all are ready to hang. Ruth moves paint as if icing a cake, adding texture with saharan sand and details with a bamboo skewer. She creates multiple layers on each piece so that every one is unique. Her art is influenced by yoga, baking, sewing, as well as the Pattern & Design movement. Ruth Ananda finds inspiration from sights and sounds just outside her window: the wondrous world of birds.
