About / Bio
Lindesay’s work is known for its good draftsmanship, strong light effects and impressionist color. She is best
known for her still lives, but also enjoys portraits and landscapes, all in pastel. She is a full Guild member of the
Society for classical Realism and a signature member of the Pastel Society of America.
Lindesay grew up in England, where she developed an affinity for the countryside, gardens and wildflowers. In
1975 she moved to Cambridge MA where she completed a PhD. In 1978 she discovered a pocket of very
knowledgeable, representational artists with direct links to the Boston School at its zenith. She studied portraiture
with one of them, Robert Cormier, at Fenway Studios. When she was offered an opportunity to study full time
with another member of this group, Paul Ingbretson, she abandoned her post- doctoral fellowship, purchased a
studio at Fenway studios and began a life-transforming apprenticeship. Two years later her husband’s career
necessitated a move to NC where she has lived since, on Eastwood Lake in Chapel Hill.
